- Where is the Point located?
The Point is a residential area of Newport, Rhode Island situated on Narragansett Bay 1 mile from Rhode Island Sound and the open Atlantic Ocean, 30 miles south of Providence, 60 miles south of Boston, and 150 miles south of New York City.
- Why is the Point unique?
Aside from its Newport harborside amenities, the ten-block area of the Point contains the largest concentration restored colonial (17 and 18th century) residences of any city in America.
- Why is it called the Point?
People often find irony in the name of our neighborhood, since it has an almost perfectly straight coastline. The neighborhood's unofficial monicker refers to the northern point of Goat Island where the "Green Light" lighthouse is located. This "point" is a prime sight visible from the entire coastline of the neighborhood.
