Speeding Problem

posted Oct 15, 2009 1:20 PM by Avram Dorfman   [ updated Mar 9, 2010 10:09 PM ]
Residents of the Point are keenly aware of the fact that man others in Newport use our neighborhood as a transit artery between downtown and the North End. Those in the know use our streets to avoid long slow bottlenecks and traffic lights at the intersection of America's Cup and Farewell, Van Zandt and Farewell, and heavy tourist traffic along America's Cup itself.

Perhaps because impatience is the primary incentive driving this phenomenon, there is an unfortunate side-effect: Safety on our streets is compromised by drives both speeding excessively, and running stop signs.

What should we do about it? What should our level of tolerance be?
